Izakaya Hanami is a sushi and bar restaurant inspired by the Japanese tradition of Hanami—the appreciation of fleeting beauty and mindful presence. The design extends this concept into a warm, street-like dining experience where guests are encouraged to slow down and enjoy the moment.
Located in Long Island, the project was challenged by an existing interior layout and a limited budget. By reusing much of the original material and working primarily with wood, the space was transformed into a welcoming izakaya that strikes a balance between authenticity and modern simplicity. A mature, Japanese-inspired color palette and well-considered lighting create a bright yet grounded atmosphere, echoing the spirit of a stroll beneath cherry blossoms.
